Is twitter run by racists?

So yesterday, a well known conservative black woman made a post on twitter that wasn’t liked by a whole lot of the liberal crowd. One person decided to start posting picture of the Klu Klux Klan robes and hoods claiming she was just another KKK member spreading hate. Keep in mind this woman is well known, a published author, and an outspoken conservative black woman. This was not some troll account.

So naturally, seeing racism on twitter, I did what I thought was the correct thing and I reported the person and their post.

This is where things get interesting.

Within an hour of reporting, twitter had logged me out of my account and made me reverify by telephone claiming “suspicious activity” on my account. No big deal, I verified I am in fact real.

Within an hour of that, twitter logged me out of my account again claiming suspicious activity again. This time they made me change my password. Again no big deal, I am real. So I changed my password.

However from the moment i logged back in, suddenly everything was different. It took me about 12 hours to actually realize this. No one was replying to any comments I left on any posts. No one was liking anything I posted. Even when I intentially posted opposite views on posts, no a single like, reply, or comment.

I spend about 9 hours a day on twitter, so I definitely no this is not normal. This is not some random glitch. I have been put in twitters “secret jail”.

On twitter’s support pages they claim they limit accounts of users who spam and make abusive posts but NEVER based on someone’s views.

If they are assumed to be telling the truth, that can only mean one thing — they limited my account not based on my views, but rather because I reported someone for being racist.

This is absolutely unacceptable. Is this really the world we live in? Companies that support racist behavior and limit the accounts of those who report it?

I can’t help but believe that this was specifically because the person being attacked was an outspoken conservative. I firmly believe if this had been reversed and I was pointing out racism again a liberal (which I would also do) I would not be facing this issue.

Should I just abandon twitter as a platform for racism? Will these limits ever be lifted? There are no real answers.
